Unknown Riddim (2005) – Pickout

Pickout keeps this one lean and sharp: just two vocal cuts and a version, with the whole thing circling back to a stripped-back reggae riddim from 2005. Kush I’s “If It’s Not You” and Paccino’s “Learn The Hard Way” sit on a groove that feels bare but steady, more about pocket and pressure than flash, with the version cut left in to let the rhythm breathe on its own. That small tracklist gives the release a very mid-2000s feel, when a lot of Jamaican producers were still leaning on compact, tune-driven projects instead of crowded compilations. It’s a concise Pickout production, and the two singers do the heavy lifting: Kush I brings the smoother, heartfelt side, while Paccino comes in a little tougher, which keeps the riddim from settling into one mood for too long.
