Uncle Demon Riddim – Dinero Uim Records

Released in 2012 on the Dinearo UIM imprint, Uncle Demon Riddim came from the Anju Blaxx and Dinearo camp, a name that sits deep in the UIM family’s dancehall output. By then, UIM had already become associated with hard-edged, riddim-driven records and with artists like Tommy Lee Sparta, whose grim style helped define the era’s darker corner of the genre.

The rhythm itself is all menace and pressure: blunt drums, a stalking bassline, and a cold, minor-key mood that leaves plenty of room for dubwise vocal attacks. It feels made for gun talk, badman poses, and supernatural imagery, which is exactly the lane the songs take. Tommy Lee Sparta’s “Uncle Demon” is the headline cut, and Vybz Kartel’s “Daddy Devil” gives the riddim one of its sharpest, most recognizable turns. The Kartel and Tommy Lee link-up on “Hell We Live” is another key moment, pairing two of the period’s most marketable voices on the same haunted backdrop.

What makes the set work is how committed it is to the theme. Cuts from Eyesus, AaDaZ, Carnage, Fryskull, Kaama, and the rest keep circling the same dark center, so the project plays like a coordinated statement rather than a random juggling. It captures an early-2010s dancehall mood when demon talk, confrontation tunes, and raw, street-level energy were a major part of the sound.
