Dre Skull’s Kling Klang Riddim arrived in 2012 on Mixpak, the Brooklyn label he founded, and it sits neatly inside the run of dancehall projects he was pushing at the time. Dre Skull had already made his name as a producer with a taste for crisp, modern arrangements and Kingston connection-making, and this one carries that same transatlantic feel.

The riddim itself is sharp and minimal, all clipped percussion, a rubbery low end and plenty of space between the drums. It has that clean, forward-driving pulse that lets the voicings punch through without overcrowding the mix. Tifa’s Champion Bubbler adds female fire and attitude, while Deva Bratt’s Hot And Ready and Suku’s Mad Sumaddy deepen the juggling with rougher, more local color. Dre Skull closes with the instrumental, underlining that this is meant to work as a full riddim piece, not just a pile of singles.
