Typhoon Riddim (2004) – Germaican Records

Cecile’s “9 Night” gives the Typhoon Riddim its sharpest entry point, and she’s the voice that really locks the whole set into focus here. Germaican keeps the rhythm taut and percussive, with enough space for the artists to ride it hard; Tanya Stephens’ “Party Tonight” and Ward 21’s “Rude Bwoy Patrol (St Lucia)” push the energy in different directions, while Dr Ring-Ding’s “Mafia” and Ill Inspecta’s “Funeral” lean into the tougher edge of the cut. Coming a couple of years after Germaican’s breakout run on the Doctors Darling side, this one feels like the label settling into a more road-tested, club-ready style without losing its German-jamaican crossover identity.
