Monstapiece Entertainment’s 2011 Tool Riddim sits in that early-2010s soca run where the drums are tight, the bass is punchy, and the whole thing is geared for road energy more than studio polish. Fadda Fox and Skinny Fabulous lock in the opening with “Hot Steppa, ” which has the kind of forward-drive you want from a Carnival tune, while Hypa Dawg’s “Wukkin Up” keeps the pace brisk and percussive. Madd Dawg’s “Carnival Gal” leans into the bacchanal mood without overcomplicating it, and Ziggy Ranking closes things on “Wine For Your Lover” with the sort of cheeky hook that suits the riddim’s hard-wearing groove. The set is compact, but it moves with enough bounce to feel made for fetes and truck speakers alike.
