The Key Riddim – Koogah Sound

Koogah Sound’s 2012 Key Riddim sits neatly in that early-2010s stretch when small European crews were still putting out crisp, compact dancehall projects with a homemade feel. It’s a short set with just four cuts, but the best one may be Pad Anthony’s “Keep It Up Deh, ” where his veteran delivery gives the riddim a bit more weight and character. Lantan’s “More Peace” keeps the message-side of things moving, while Mowgli’s “Highest Grade” leans into the herb-friendly angle that shows up all over the tracklist. Koogah Sound, the Geneva-based sound system and production outfit, had already been active for years by then, and this one lands like a tidy little slice of their catalogue rather than a big statement piece.
