Coming out of the 2012 dancehall juggling season, Electrify Riddim carries that sharp, springy feel a good sound system cut needs: bright enough to move a dance, heavy enough to keep the low end talking. The set pulls in a wide spread of voices, with Action Fire’s “Friends And Vybz, ” Diamond White’s title cut, and Juggernaut’s “Badman Nuh Business” giving the riddim some of its strongest character, while Jahmind’s “Guns Ago Talk” and Fiyah Binghi’s “Blazing Fiyah” keep the energy in the harder lane. It’s a various-artists project with 19 tracks in all, so the interest is in how each singer rides the same instrumental differently rather than in any single star turn. As a 2012 release, it sits neatly among those lean, club-minded dancehall compilations that were built for selectors who wanted one riddim to carry the whole set.
