Sativa Riddim – Don Corleon Records

Don Corleon’s Sativa Riddim lands a little drier and more stripped-back than some of his bigger crossover numbers, but that’s part of its pull: no sprawling lineup, just Munga’s “Bad From Mi Born” in clean and raw cuts, Vybz Kartel alongside Don Corleon on “Floating By, ” and a stark version to frame the whole thing. The production keeps close to the bones, with a lean digital pulse, clipped drum programming and a tight bassline that never gets too heavy, even when the vocals push into tougher territory. Munga’s tune brings the most bite, while Kartel and Don Corleon lean into a more measured, conversational delivery. It’s a 2007 dancehall set that runs on restraint, sitting in a mid-tempo pocket where the bass stays taut and the riddim leaves plenty of room for the voice.
