System Riddim – Keno 4 Star

Keno 4 Star’s System Riddim lands a little leaner than the bigger, more stacked dancehall packages that were circulating in 2012, with just five cuts and a tight roster that keeps the focus on the groove. Romain Virgo’s “Take It Too Far” gives the set its clearest melodic hook, while Simple Star’s “Feel Di Pain” and the pair of badmind tunes from T Nez and Kibaki lean into the same stern, street-level theme without crowding the rhythm. The production sits in that early-2010s dancehall pocket: crisp drum programming, a clipped stepper feel, and a bass line that stays heavy but never gets muddy. Chase Cross and 3 Star close it out on “So Long, ” and the whole thing moves at a brisk, straight-ahead tempo that leaves plenty of room for the vocals to cut through.
