Back in 2011, when reggae was still leaning hard on roots-conscious one-riddim sets, Stringz Riddim arrived from Rumble Rock Recordz with a warm, guitar-string shimmer and a clean, steady pulse that leaves plenty of room for the singers. Capleton and Black Prophet’s “You Get What You Want” gives the project its sharpest edge, while Chezidek’s “Still Want More” and Messenjah Selah’s “Wanna Get Away” sit comfortably in the same meditative pocket, alongside cuts from Buggy Nhakente, O Shen, Ras Professor, and others. Rumble Rock even closes the set with its own title cut, which underlines how the riddim is meant to carry the whole session rather than crowd it.
