Out of Jamaica’s contemporary roots lane, Sheng Slang Riddim lands like a brisk, digital-skanking session with enough bounce to keep it moving and enough grit to keep it grounded. Giddimani Records lines up eight cuts around the riddim, with Perfect Giddimani’s “Bobo Pot” leading the charge and strong turns from Ras Fraser Jr. on “Jealousy, ” Greg Roy on “Secret Lover, ” and Robbie Rule’s feel-good “Happy Life. ” Young Shanty’s “Dancehall Vibes” pushes the tempo a little harder, while Cookie The Herbalist and Da Real Storm keep the social-conscious edge in view.
