Island Hopping Riddim – Giddimani Records

Giddimani Records keeps this one in family and, as ever, Perfect Giddimani’s hand is all over the concept. By the time Island Hopping Riddim surfaced in July 2026, the label had already built a reputation for putting out conscious, vocalist-friendly reggae with a strong artist-producer identity rather than chasing disposable juggling business. Perfect himself is one of the label’s defining voices, and here he anchors the project with “Love Or Voodoo, ” a title that already hints at the push and pull between affection and suspicion that runs through a lot of roots-reggae writing.

The riddim has a breezy, island-lit feel rather than a heavy militant stomp. It sits in that modern roots lane where the groove is clean, the bass carries warmth instead of aggression, and the drums leave enough air for the singers to phrase with ease. That space matters, because the voices on it are all different shades of the same tradition. Lutan Fyah brings the veteran weight with “Rastaman Fitness, ” and he’s a natural fit for a tune that sounds like it wants discipline, grounding and spiritual stamina. Ras Fraser Jr. follows with “Handshake, ” adding a more direct contemporary roots tone. Young Shanty, who has long blurred reggae, dancehall and other Black musical forms into one fluid style, gets one of the more melodic slots with “Love Is Magic, ” and the title suggests a softer, more romantic turn. Dyllano’s “This Life” rounds out the set with a song that feels geared toward reflection and lived experience.

What makes Island Hopping Riddim interesting is that it doesn’t try to overwhelm the singers with excess. It gives each cut enough room to land its own mood, which is exactly what a good riddim should do. The project feels curated for selectors and listeners who still want songs with message, melody and replay value, not just a stack of names.
