Red Eye Riddim – Blue Pie Records

Coming out of Jamaica’s late-2000s dancehall rush, Red Eye Riddim taps into that fast, aggressive era with a tense, gun-talking pulse and a quickstep energy that leaves room for sharp one-liners. Blue Pie Records line up a deep bench here, with Wayne Marshall’s “Nah Fall, ” Delly Ranx’s “Boasy Pose, ” and Bling Dawg’s “Dutty Nayger” doing a lot of the heavy lifting, while Spice and Assailant add extra bite on the vocal side. The riddim was issued in 2008, and the pace sits right in step with the harder club sounds circulating then, more sprint than groove. For Blue Pie, it fits neatly beside the label’s other dancehall-era compilations: a compact, high-turnover release with a proper version cut and enough voices to keep the pattern moving.
