Set in the mid-2000s dancehall run, Rainfall Riddim keeps things tight with just five cuts and no wasted space, the kind of quick-fire juggling that lets each voicing land cleanly. Sweetie Ire opens with “Mah Her Up, ” Ras Kinah follows with the tougher “Nah Give It Up, ” and Tugg A War’s “Good News” shifts the energy without breaking the riddim’s snap. Mr Lexx, still the name with the biggest pull here, slides into “Mix Up” with the sort of patter that suits a sharp, no-frills dancehall bed, while G Star closes on “Millenium Cowboy, ” giving the set a final jolt. It’s a compact 2008 release, but the pacing and the way the voices are spaced out make it feel built for sound system play rather than background listening.
