Quarter Mile Riddim – Downsound Records

Quarter-mile pressure. Downsound’s 2013 Quarter Mile Riddim runs like a stripped-down sprint, all tense drum patterns, rubbery bass and a sharp, forward-leaning bounce that feels made for the fast-lane side of dancehall. Konshens’ “Weak I” sets the pace with that sly, hard-edged delivery he does so well, while Darrio’s “Gwaan (Edit)” and Delus’ “Addicted” keep the energy taut and direct; Motion’s “Live Blanket” closes the four-cut set with the same lean momentum. It’s a compact juggling, but that was very much the moment in dancehall then: fewer tracks, cleaner hooks, and riddims built to move quickly through selectors’ crates without wasting a second.
