Purple Bud Riddim – Nyce Music

Nyce Music’s Purple Bud Riddim sits right in that busy 2002 dancehall run, when producers were chasing lean, tough patterns and quick-fire voicings; here the set is anchored by a sharp little lineup that keeps the energy moving without overloading the cut. Beenie Man turns up twice on “Big Life, ” with the dancehall mix and radio mix giving the project its most obvious spotlight, while Lexxus on “Bust The Place” and Mr Easy’s “Gangstar” keep the pressure on. Roundhead’s “Compose” adds a sly, streetwise edge, and the combinations from 14K and Boom Dandimite, Shamrock and Kirk Davis, and Tanto Metro and Devonte round out the vocal spread. The title track itself isn’t listed as a separate instrumental here, so the sequence ends on “Mix It Up, ” which feels about right for a riddim that keeps its foot on the gas throughout.
