Lime Key Riddim – Builders Records

Anthony B’s “Fight Gainst” gives Lime Key Riddim its centre of gravity, but the real pleasure here is hearing Builders Records lean into that early-2000s joggling bounce with a sharper, airier feel than the heavier bashment cuts they were pushing around the same time. Assassin, Bling Dawg, Elephant Man and Ghost all get room to cut through, and the sequence keeps circling back to the rude-boy energy and playful clash talk that made these compilations work on the dances. Diavallon “Dia” Fearon is the hand behind the riddim, and this sits neatly beside his other Builders productions from the period, with enough movement in the drum pattern and synth work to keep it from sounding like a simple copy of the label’s earlier formulas.
