    Overtime Riddim - Ja Productions

JA Productions had a sharp run in 2012, and Overtime Riddim sits right in the middle of it: a slick, radio-ready dancehall juggling overseen by producer Justus Arison. The label had already made noise with its earlier riddim work, and this one keeps that same polished, late-night Kingston feel while still leaving room for the street and the dance. The release landed in August 2012 and came as a 12-track set with a version cut alongside the vocal songs.

The riddim itself moves with a slow-bouncing, warm bassline and a smooth, looping groove that leaves enough space for melody as much as chatter. Gyptian’s “Overtime” is the signature song, floating on the instrumental with his soft, sensual delivery and a hook aimed squarely at working women. Christopher Martin’s “Na Na Na” brings a cleaner, sweeter singjay touch, while Mavado’s “Caribbean Girls” gives the rhythm a rougher edge without breaking its glide. Beenie Man’s “Clean Heart” adds veteran charisma, and the Elephant Man and Khago pairing on “Slap Weh” pushes the energy back toward the dancefloor. Blak Ryno’s “Summer Time” and Kalado’s “Whole Night” help round out the set with younger voices that suit the riddim’s easy sway.

What makes Overtime work is how well it balances crossover polish with pure dancehall structure. JA Productions keeps the beat uncluttered, and the singers and deejays do the rest, turning a single groove into a project with its own identity.
