Antibiotic Riddim – Jah Snowcone

Jah Snowcone’s Antibiotic Riddim landed in 2012 with the kind of street-level pressure that made his name in dancehall in the first place. Rohan “Jah Snowcone” Fuller has long been one of the sharper rhythm builders in the Jamaican scene, and this one sits comfortably in that run: raw, punchy, and made for the dance rather than the headset. It is a proper juggling riddim, packed with voices and aimed squarely at selectors.

The beat itself has a hard, rolling knock and a tense, propulsive swing that leaves plenty of room for deejays to ride it aggressively. The vocals that tend to hit hardest are the ones that match that edge. Bounty Killer’s “No Long Talking” is the obvious heavyweight cut, all bark and authority, while Spragga Benz brings veteran discipline to “Tell Me Who. ” Elephant Man’s “Bah Bah Bad” pushes the energy in a more frenetic direction, and Zumjay’s “Beautiful Dance” adds a lighter, more melodic touch with The Dubplates in tow.

Elsewhere, the riddim’s cast stretches from Notch and Mr. Vegas to Lady G, Delly Ranx, Assassin, Kalado and Kiprich, which gives the project a wide dancehall reach without losing its rough frame. That mix of veterans and newer names is part of what made Antibiotic feel so active in 2012: it was less a one-note compilation than a working sound system weapon, built to cut across different styles while staying firmly in the dancehall lane.
