Lutah King’s “Handisikunyengerera” is a good way into One Clan Riddim Vol. 2, because it plants you right in the middle of that rough-edged Zimdancehall energy before the whole project fans out across more than a dozen voices. Chill Spot Recordz keeps the riddim taut and percussive, with the kind of spare, driving groove that leaves plenty of room for Ras Pompy, Fizzman Junta and Tocky Vibes to attack the rhythm in their own styles, while the duet cut from T Makwikwi and Vannessa adds a slightly lighter touch. You can hear the producer’s hand in how the songs sit against each other: tough, direct, and geared for sound-system play rather than polish. It’s the sort of compilation that rewards quick repeat listens, especially once “Gogogoi” and “Hatikwate Hondo” settle in.
