Number 3 Riddim – In The Streetz Records

Norris Man opens Number 3 Riddim with “We Are the Creator, ” and that roots-heavy chant gives the whole set its tone right away. In The Streetz Records keeps the arrangement lean and militant, with a tough one-drop pulse, murky bass, and enough room for each singer to cut through. Lutan Fyah’s “Break Free” and Jah Mason’s “Let’s Not War” push the conscious message forward, while Turbulence comes in a little more forcefully on “Play Hard Ball. ” Natural Blacks rounds it out with “Let’s Sing and Shout, ” and the instrumental closes the six-cut set cleanly. Released in 2012, it sits comfortably in that early-2010s stretch when straight-ahead roots riddims were still carrying sharp social commentary without overcomplicating the formula.
