Modern Dancehall Riddim – Sp Muzik

SP Muzik’s Modern Dancehall Riddim sits right in the middle of that 2015 wave of tight, compact one-riddim drops, and it keeps the focus on three vocal cuts plus the instrumental version. Rayonne Hype turns up twice with “One, ” first in raw form and then clean, which makes the tune feel like the anchor point of the whole set; it’s the kind of straight-ahead modern dancehall piece that works equally well for radio and the dance. Stonebwoy linking with Smoodface on “Dumsor (Doom So)” gives the project a little extra pull, especially with that title nodding to the Ghanaian power-crisis conversation that was very much in the air at the time. Stylus’ “Marching Along” keeps the pace moving before SP Muzik closes it out with the riddim version, and the whole thing landed in September 2015 as a quick, concise snapshot of the era.
