Mix Drink Riddim – Icon Music Group

Coming in a little leaner and more party-focused than some of Icon Music Group’s other 2010 dancehall work, Mix Drink Riddim lines up a compact set of voices around the same swaggering cut. Calado’s “New Day, ” Ding Dong and Bravo’s “That Bad, ” Future Fambo’s “Celebration, ” and Stein’s “Di Needle” keep the energy on the street-side, while Timeka Marshall and Voicemail bring a cleaner, more singalong edge. The riddim itself sits in that early-2010s dancehall sweet spot: clipped drum programming, a springy bassline, and just enough space for the DJs to punch through without crowding the groove. The clean and raw versions of “Di Needle” and “Nuff Love” suggest a release built for both radio play and soundsystem use, with the instrumental running right alongside the vocals to underline the riddim’s tight, mid-tempo knock.
