Out of Jamaica’s 2019 dancehall run, Mind Set Riddim sits in that gritty, mid-tempo pocket where the bass does the heavy lifting and the vocals ride tight and direct. Fire 5 Records keeps the cast lean, and that works in its favor: Chilando’s “Watch Who No Clap” brings the warning-shot energy, Chino leans into the hustler talk on “Money Man A Pree, ” and TeeJay softens the edge with “Cherish Mama Love, ” one of the set’s more heartfelt turns. Fire 5 even steps in with “Struggles Ina Life, ” which gives the riddim a more personal center. The whole thing runs four tracks and dropped in April 2019, a compact little slice of the era when dancehall was still leaning hard on stripped-down, streetwise rhythms and everyday survival talk.
