Migraine Riddim (2006) – Black Chiney Records

Black Chiney kept Migraine Riddim tight and nasty, with a gritty, mid-tempo step and a bassline that feels like it’s got a permanent headache of its own. Beenie Man’s “Wink At Me” and Vybz Kartel’s “Maths Class” sit right at the sharp end of the set, while Mr Easy and Notch lean into the tougher side of the juggling and Kardinal Offishall with Lindo P add a cross-border twist on “Fire. ” Released in 2006, it lands in that period when Black Chiney were sharpening a Miami-Jamaica sound that could move from street-ready dancehall to crossover appeal without losing its edge.
