Matey Song Riddim – Wiletunes

Ward 21 give this one its sharpest edge, turning “Matey Song” into the kind of cheeky, envy-laced dancehall cut that sits right between badman talk and street humor, while Marcy Chin’s hook on “Wife Versus Mate” adds a sly counterpoint to the whole affair. The riddim brings a lean, hard-snapping groove with enough bounce for Chico’s “Let’s Get It On, ” Cobra and Stacious on “Nah Get Nuh Ratings, ” and Mega Banton’s “Gooda Than Gold” to all land differently without breaking the flow. Wiletunes kept the set tight in 2015, pairing vocal cuts with clean and explicit versions plus an instrumental, which was very much the era’s digital-riddim logic: a single pattern, a handful of voices, and plenty of room for each tune to jab at the same theme from a different angle.
