Out of Jamaica’s evergreen Far East groove, Wiletunes dusted off a classic feel in 2015 and kept this one lean: just three cuts, each leaning into a different corner of the same rootsy canvas. Aisha Davis opens with “All I Need Is You, ” Izula teams with Marcy Chin on “True Love, ” and Ward 21 light up the set with “We A Danger (Roots Mix), ” the most direct nod to dancehall’s tougher edge. The choice of Izula is telling too, since he was explicitly revisiting the old White Mice “True Love” line over a revived Far East beat, tying the project back to the riddim’s earlier King Jammy-era history while giving it a fresh 2015 polish. It’s a short release, but one that taps into that mid-2010s appetite for reworking foundation rhythms without sanding off their character.
