Mask Riddim keeps the focus tight and gritty, with a dry, rolling dancehall pulse that leaves plenty of room for the vocals to cut through. The lineup is small but effective: El Toro comes in with the title cut, Mikey Bashment leans into the party-energy side on “Dancehall Contest, ” and Prezerv’s “To Di Club” pushes the whole thing toward late-night bashment rather than anything polished or glossy. That stripped-back approach fits the 2012 moment well, when a lot of one-riddim projects were chasing club weight more than radio sheen. Here, the appeal is in the rough edges and the simple, head-nod groove.
