Mansions Riddim – 111 Productions

Mansions Riddim arrived in 2010 from 111 Productions, the imprint run by Matthew “Esco” Thompson, who came up in dancehall as one half of Leftside and Esco before moving deeper into production. That background shows in the way the riddim balances street attitude with a polished, melodic core, keeping the bassline moving while leaving space for the singers to stretch out. The release also points to the kind of work Esco was building around that time: modern reggae with enough bite for dancehall ears, but enough warmth for radio and roots fans.

The vocal lineup is strong and varied. Alaine’s “Bring It Back” sets a tender, hook-led tone, while Etana’s “True Love” and Jah Cure’s “Love You Anyway” bring the cleaner lovers-rock edge that gave this rhythm its lasting appeal. Gyptian’s “Share My Lovin” sits right in his smooth, airy lane, and Wayne Marshall’s “Everywhere I Go” adds a more direct dancehall charge. Elephant Man’s “Mansions” gives the set a sharper contrast, and Esco’s own “Blessings” and Rollin X feat. Stratdon’s “To Mi Father” widen the emotional range without breaking the flow.

What makes Mansions work is the way the production holds all of that together: reflective enough for the singers, sturdy enough for the deejays, and clean enough that the instrumental and mix versions have their own weight. It is one of those early-2010 reggae rhythms that feels built for repeated juggling, with each voice revealing a different side of the same pattern.
