Back in 2013, when lovers rock and softer dancehall edges were still carrying a lot of weight in reggae circles, Love Mature Riddim landed with a tidy set of voices aimed squarely at romance and devotion. Alex T’s title cut, Firelamp’s “Maturelly, ” and Janyce’s “Just Me and You” sit nicely against the warmer, mid-tempo pull of the rhythm, while Talliban’s “You Make Me Higher” and Ras Prynciple, Takie and Aspar’s “Ganja Farmer” nudge the project into more playful territory without breaking the mood. Scrappers x Yardlink Records keep the production lean and steady, letting the singers carry the feeling over a groove that stays light on its feet but still has enough bass weight to hold the whole set together. The release runs 11 tracks, closing with Tek Nine’s “Never Stop. ”
