LOCK THE CITY RIDDIM produced by MARVELUS PROD 1999
Lock The City Overview
Back in 1999, sound system culture was alive and loud in Jamaica. Selectors loved to find a riddim that could mash up the dance, and the Lock The City Riddim did just that. This bashment beat had a real yard vibe—heavy bass, sharp snares, and a rhythm that made people move. It was the kind of riddim built for big speakers and late-night street dances. The arranger played a big part in shaping the sound, making sure each song fit the riddim just right. The producer, MARVELUS PROD, was already known for bringing out strong dancehall projects. With a reputation for keeping the energy high, MARVELUS PROD helped push bashment music to new places. Their work has been noticed in the dancehall scene for keeping the old school feeling alive while bringing fresh energy. The artists on this riddim were some of the most talked-about names. Future Troubles came in strong with "Get with Me," a track that showed his unique style. Galaxy P gave us "Bad Man Sup'm," adding his own tough lyrics. General B, known for his time with Monster Shack Crew and hits like "Ducky," dropped "So So Wuk." Elephant Man, who would later win the 2004 MOBO Award for Best Reggae Act, brought fire with "Mek Gal Scream." Boom Dandimite, once part of Scare Dem Crew, delivered "All Now." This project was a real yard classic, and selectors made sure it got played at all the big events that year.
