Frisco Kid’s “Spend Di Loot” is the cut that jumps out first on Heavy Dee Productions’ 2002 Latest Riddim, with Determine, Danny English and Future Troubles keeping the pressure up on a juggling that leans hard into tough early-2000s dancehall energy. The set has that streetwise, money-and-gun talk running through it, but Heavy Dee keeps the pace lively enough for singing as well as DJ chat, and the double appearance from Mitch on “Fat Thing” in raw and clean versions adds a little extra edge. Mr Lexx, Harry Todler, Singing Prince and the Nicholas Bennet/Fletcher B combination help flesh it out into a proper one-riddim lineup rather than a loose compilation. It sits nicely in that era of Heavy Dee productions when the label was making compact, voice-driven dancehall packages with enough personality to hold their own beside the bigger mid-2000s juggling work.
