Last Call Riddim – Peckings

Tony Sexton’s “Africa Coming” sets the tone on Peckings’ Last Call Riddim, a four-track 2017 roots session that keeps its focus tight and its pacing measured. Empress Ayeola follows with “Rise and Shine, ” bringing a brighter, uplifted edge, while Ranking Joe’s “Burn Down Rome” leans into the older militant reggae tradition with the kind of pressure his voice has always carried well. The one instrumental cut, Paul Groucho Smykle’s “Last Call Dubwize, ” gives the riddim room to breathe and underlines Peckings’ taste for a clean, dub-conscious finish. Still, it’s Tony Sexton who leaves the strongest mark here, turning “Africa Coming” into the tune that frames the whole set and gives the project its clearest identity.
