Gyptian’s “The Same Stone” gives Karukera Riddim its smoothest hook, but the set is really about that 2012 Mavrick Records groove and the mix of voices riding it, from Lutan Fyah’s righteous “Jah Nah Go Mek Mi Suffer” to Turbulance’s sharper “Burn Dem Out” and Spectacular’s “Dem Frass. ” The sequence keeps things moving like a proper one-riddim showcase, with the vocal cuts trimmed to about three and a half minutes each before the closing version lets the rhythm breathe on its own. Hyah Slyce, Ataru, Mark Tenn and Cevrall all get their turn too, giving the riddim a mix of conscience lyrics and lover’s mood without drifting away from the same tight foundation. Karukera Riddim was released on August 30, 2012, and runs nine tracks over 31 minutes.
