Instant Replay Riddim – Trinity 7 Records

Cool pull. Instant Replay Riddim has that mid-2000s dancehall snap you hear in a lot of Trinity 7’s work, but the cut that really anchors it is Beenie Man’s “Police In Helicopter, ” which sits neatly beside Anthony B’s rougher “Baddest Thing” and Jah Vinci’s street-level “Youth In The Streets. ” The production is credited to Mario Campbell, and Riddim-ID places it in 2006, which fits the raw, compact feel of the whole set; there’s no wasted motion here, just a tight little run of voices over one instrumental and a version pull at the end. Amara and Versatile’s “Got It Bad” and Versatile’s solo “No Gun Thing” keep the energy moving, with the riddim itself doing the rest, nice and lean.
