Cash Register Riddim (2008) – John John Records

Three voices carry Cash Register Riddim, and that’s enough to make the set feel lean and pointed: Elephant Man’s title cut, Mykal Rose’s “Bad A Yard, ” and Vybz Kartel’s “Set Up Mi Life” all sit on top of John John Records’ 2008 dancehall instrumental. The rhythm itself has that sharp, streetwise John John feel, with a clipped bounce and enough low-end weight to let each artist come in different ways, from Elephant Man’s manic energy to Kartel’s colder, more deliberate phrasing, while Mykal Rose gives the project its most seasoned touch. John John was already a key name in dancehall production by then, and this one keeps the focus tight rather than overloading the riddim with voices. The release runs four tracks in all, ending with the instrumental version.
