The Neva Now Riddim has that compact, mid-2000s dancehall snap: tight drums, a brassy edge, and enough bass pressure to keep the vocals bouncing without crowding them out. On a four-cut plate from 2008, Tisy’s “Ni On Sel” leans into the rawest side of the groove, while Anol Mc and Fabfada ride it with sharper, more street-level phrasing; Tronixxx closes with “Dancehall, ” which feels like the obvious mission statement for the whole juggling. It’s a small lineup, but that was part of the era’s charm, when producers were happy to let a lean riddim do the heavy lifting and give each artist enough room to cut through the noise.
