High Grade Riddim (2007) – Tuff Nut Studio

Jah Son comes in strong on High Grade Riddim, and his two cuts, “Dem Gready” with Jah Choper and “Got To Get U” with Marina, give Tuff Nut Studio’s 2007 juggling its sharpest lift. Around them, Daniel Bless, Gounz Man, Kenny Auther, Sensor and Pilot keep the set moving in a straightforward roots-reggae register, with “Healing Of D Nation” from Marley Palmer earning an edit and a raw version, which usually means the producer knew that one had extra mileage. Tuff Nut’s arrangement keeps the riddim lean and focused rather than overcrowded, and the instrumental closes things out cleanly. In the label’s catalogue, this sits nicely among those mid-2000s one-riddim sets that leaned more on message tunes and vocalist selection than any big studio gloss.
