Hempress Riddim – Temple Swing

Hempress Riddim has that lean 2019 dancehall feel, with just five cuts and no wasted motion, so the whole thing moves like a tight little selector’s weapon rather than a bloated compilation. Temple Swing keeps the focus on the groove, and the vocals from D’syanide, Frasswel, Genista, Knavi Ikon and Segree all ride the same pattern without crowding each other out; “Come Quick” and “Lucky Star” are the names that stick quickest, but “Yanique” also lands with a bit of extra bite. It’s the kind of release where the rhythm’s character does most of the talking, and the closing “Ride” leaves the project with a steady, unfussy finish.
