Hammering Riddim – Munshyn Rekordz

Munshyn Rekordz’ Hammering Riddim sits in that early-2013 dancehall run where the energy is rough, cheeky, and straight to the point: seven cuts, seven artists, and not a minute wasted. The title feels apt, because the rhythm comes off hard and percussive, with that clipped, forward-driving bounce that leaves plenty of room for the deejays to work. Ancient Kush and 1 Gun’s “Galz Love We” and Comrade Aka Reptiler’s “Love Girls” lean into the flirtatious side of the thing, while Tesh gets two turns — “Run Back Ah Yard” and “Build It” — to show a bit more range on the same framework. Quanjisto’s “Go For Your Love” keeps the lovers angle in play, and We-Mu closes with “Murderer, ” which gives the set a darker edge. It’s a compact riddim from 2013, but it doesn’t waste time finding its pocket.
