GOLD SPOON RIDDIM produced by TECHNIQUES RECORDS 1991
Gold Spoon Overview
In 1991, dancehall music was the heartbeat of many Jamaican communities. Yard parties and sound system clashes were everywhere, and people came together to dance and celebrate. The music was raw and full of energy, echoing the real-life stories of the streets. One dancehall set from that year truly captured this feeling and became a must-play at every session. The producer behind this set was TECHNIQUES RECORDS, a legendary label in Jamaican music. Techniques was started by Winston Riley, who made a big impact on reggae and dancehall from the late 1970s. By 1991, the label was known for releasing some of the biggest dancehall hits and helping new artists find their voice. This dancehall set brought together some of the best voices of the time. Major Christi Delly Ranx and Major Christie both came strong with their song "Best For You," showing off their unique styles on the same riddim. Buccaneer, known for mixing dancehall with pirate themes, delivered "First Impression," adding his own twist to the set. Don T’s "Gal A Yuh Smile" kept the vibe smooth and catchy, while BuJu Banton, who would later become one of dancehall’s biggest stars, was featured with "Gold Spoon." BuJu Banton is famous for his 1995 album "’Til Shiloh," which brought him international attention. Other artists like Turbo Belly with "Kill Yuh Mate," Baby Wayne with "Kinaaki," Spanner Banner with "No Tears," Clement Irie with "Nuh Fool," and Powerman with "Preps" all added their own flavor to the riddim.
