Galore Riddim – Legends Records

Galore Riddim arrived in 2006 from Legends Records, with Craig “Leftside” Parks and Matthew “Esco” Thompson behind the production. By then the duo were already a problem in the dancehall circuit, and this juggling landed in the same era that made their Dr Evil cut “More Punanny” a mixshow favorite and pushed their names deeper into the 2000s riddim conversation.

The rhythm has that sharp mid-2000s dancehall bite: skittering drums, a thick, restless bassline, and a fast-moving bounce that leaves plenty of room for DJs and singers to switch styles. It is hard-edged but playful, the kind of instrumental that can take rude-boy chatter, sexual innuendo, and straight party flex in the same pass without losing momentum. The version cut helps frame the whole thing as a proper juggling, not just a pile of singles.

The strongest names on the set tell the story. Beenie Man and Wayne Marshall bring veteran swagger to “How Yu Fi Dis, ” while Elephant Man’s “Gone Up” pushes the energy into full dance mode. Lady Saw’s “Bed Noise” adds her usual sharp, commanding presence, and Vybz Kartel’s “Mek Wi Drink” gives the riddim a looser, bashment-heavy pull. Leftside and Esco also voice it themselves as Dr Evil on “More Punanny, ” which became one of the project’s most recognizable moments. Future Troubles, Idonia, and Franz Capone help fill out a lineup that keeps the riddim moving without ever sounding crowded.
