Big League Riddim – Star Kutt Records

A late-2008 Kingston dancehall swing, Big League came out of Star Kutt with the kind of crossover-heavy lineup that was lighting up radio and juggling sets at the same time. Busy Signal’s “See It Deh Now” and Demarco’s “Spend Pon Dem” sit right in that sweet spot between cheeky bragging and street-level urgency, while Elephant Man, Konshens, Serani and Munga keep the energy moving with sharp, money-minded cuts. The production is credited to Collin Edwards under the Star Kutt banner, and the riddim had enough heat that Demarco’s edit and full version both made the run, which says plenty about how the tune was being worked at the time; even Vybz Kartel’s “Squeeze” lurks at the edge, as an afterthought, really.
