FLINTSTONES AKA PICAPIEDRAS RIDDIM produced by RECORD FACTORY 1995
Flintstones Aka Picapiedras Overview
In 1995, the sound system scene in Jamaica was alive with energy. Sound systems played a key role in dancehall culture, bringing new riddims and songs to the streets. One riddim stood out that year—the Flintstones, also called Picapiedras Riddim. Its sound system cut was powerful, shaking speakers at every clash and party. This version quickly became a favorite among selectors and fans, setting the mood for many late-night sessions. The riddim’s architect was the well-known producer RECORD FACTORY. RECORD FACTORY was a respected label in the 1990s, known for producing several important dancehall hits. The label helped shape the sound of the era, working with top artists and creating riddims that lasted beyond their first release. On the Flintstones riddim, two artists made a big impression. Mad Cobra brought his hard-hitting style to the track "Death Rock," giving the riddim a tough edge. Mad Cobra was already famous for his 1992 hit "Flex," which reached number 13 on the US Billboard Hot 100, showing his international appeal. He also delivered another strong track, "Bad Mind," adding more depth to the release. Sizzla, known for his powerful voice and conscious lyrics, contributed "Blood Run Again." Sizzla would go on to release over 50 albums in his career, becoming one of reggae’s most prolific artists. Together, these songs made the Flintstones riddim a touchstone of dancehall culture in 1995. The sound system cut, in particular, left a lasting mark, showing the power of riddim, producer, and artist working together.
