Cut on Digital B in 1991, the Detergent Riddim, also known as the Soap Riddim and Gun Talk Riddim, brings together a tight dancehall set with Chaka Demus, Dirtsman, Johnny P, Junior Demus, Lady P, and the rare Long John cut. Dirtsman’s Boasey and Chaka Demus’ Chaka Hits are the standout names here, while Lady P’s Gun Talk and Junior Demus’ Under Mi Gun keep the gun-shot theme running through the rhythm. Digital B was one of the key labels shaping early-’90s Jamaican dancehall, and this set shows that polished, hard-edged style clearly.
