Fire Worxs Riddim comes out of Purple Skunk Jamaica’s long-running dancehall catalogue, with the official release dated March 2, 2018. The label itself traces back to Wayne “DJ Wayne” Morris, a name that has been attached to Purple Skunk productions since the early 2000s, so this wasn’t a one-off internet juggling but part of a deeper studio history.

The riddim is short and sharp, with five cuts and four voicing artists. Vybz Kartel gets the loudest spotlight with two versions of “Yabba Dabba Doo, ” one clean and one raw, which tells you plenty about the way the tune was being worked for radio and street play alike. Kartel’s presence matters: he is still one of dancehall’s defining figures, and even on a smaller juggling his phrasing and confidence push the rhythm into that rude, animated zone fans expect from him. I-Octane brings a different energy on “Gonna Be Rich, ” folding his more melodic, conscious delivery into the project, while Teflon’s “Nuh Time Fi Gaze” adds a harder, no-nonsense turn.
