Diego Records’ Text Nyne Riddim lands in the 2021 dancehall lane with a tight little nine-track run, most of the cuts clocking in at just over two and a half minutes and keeping the energy clipped and focused. The lineup has a useful mix of voices rather than a stacked superstar cast: Surgeon Boss opens with “Firm And Strong, ” Mighty Flex pushes the rougher edge on “Burn, ” and Fury Mafia’s “Ghetto Child” keeps the street-level tone moving. Tommy Famous gets two passes at “Money Topic, ” one clean and one raw, which gives the set a sharper contrast than most one-riddim packages of this size. But the tune that leaves the strongest mark is One Gad’s “Am Living, ” a closing cut that hangs around after the rest of the riddim has moved on.
