Produced by Henry “Junjo” Lawes for Volcano Records in 1981, Fire House Rock is one of those heavyweight early-’80s riddims that helped define the label’s run. The set pairs The Wailing Souls’ title cut with tough selections from Scientist and The Roots Radics on The Mummy’s Shroud, Toyan on Big Showdown, and Michigan and Smiley’s Natty Heng On In Deh, with Yellowman and Fathead adding Water Rock a little later. Built on the classic Volcano sound and backed by the Roots Radics, it carries that gritty, bass-driven Waterhouse energy that made Junjo’s productions so influential across roots and dancehall.
