Far East Riddim - Wws Records 2003

Far East Riddim came out in 2003 on WWS Records, and it sits in that early-2000s reggae space where one rhythm can carry a whole juggling session. WWS keeps it lean with six tracks, including the instrumental version and vocals from Egg Nog and Powerman, G, Nitty Kutchie, Pinchers, and a Sizzla and Leroy Smart combination. That lineup alone tells you the frame: veteran voices, a couple of more street-level cuts, and enough name value to give the riddim some lift.

The rhythm has a firm, driving bounce rather than a flashy digital rush, with enough room in the pocket for each singer to shape the tune differently. Egg Nog and Powerman’s “Never Learn” brings a harder dancehall edge, while Nitty Kutchie’s “Holding On” works better in a more melodic, reflective mode. Pinchers’ “Senseless War” sits naturally in the conscious lane, and the Sizzla and Leroy Smart pairing on “Try Fi Stop This” is the cut that most clearly links the project to the era’s roots revival energy. Smart’s seasoned, ragged phrasing and Sizzla’s intense singjay delivery make that combination feel like the riddim’s anchor.

What makes Far East Riddim effective is the balance between message tunes and pure juggling value. It is not overloaded, and that gives the pattern room to breathe. The version cut also matters, because it confirms this as a proper riddim project rather than just a loose collection of singles.
