DIGGETY RIDDIM produced by ISLAND JAMAICA 1997
Diggety Overview
The Diggety Riddim came out of Jamaica in 1997 and quickly became a standout in the dancehall scene. This set brought together some of the top voices of the time. ARP delivered the track “Die On You,” showing off their signature vocal style. Daddy Screw, known for his energetic performances and the popular song “Big Things A Gwaan,” added “Swear” to the riddim, giving fans more of his unique sound. Richie Spice, who would later gain international fame with “Earth A Run Red,” was also featured here with “One For The Money.” The duo of Spanner & Buccaneer gave the set a fresh twist with their version, “No Diggity.” Buccaneer was already well-known for mixing dancehall with opera, especially on his hit “Bruk Out.” The producer behind this project was ISLAND JAMAICA, a label and production team famous for releasing classic dancehall and reggae collections in the 1990s. ISLAND JAMAICA was known for helping to break new artists and bringing a modern sound to the genre. Their work on Diggety Riddim kept the party vibes strong and made sure the music stayed popular in dancehall parties—known as “bashments”—all over Jamaica in 1997. The riddim’s lively percussion and fresh energy still make it a favorite among dancehall fans today.
